BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team continued strong play in the 2015 Hokie Invite on Saturday, moving on to the finals in two doubles flights and three singles.

The day began with doubles play across three flights. Caroline Daxhelet and Sansitha Nandakumar continued their streak through the Maroon flight, defeating ASU’s Alejandra Cisneros and Lena Pacholski by a score of 6-3 in the semifinals.

In the White flight, Sloan Barton and Emily Pence defeated a mixed team of Wofford’s Brooke Graham and Morehead State’s Marie Orenella by a score of 6-1 to move into Sunday’s finals.

Frances Peyton and Mariana Silva defeated Penn State’s Hannah Kratky and Emily Rivers 6-2 in the Consolation Draw of the White flight.

Several Tech players picked up second round wins in singles play on Saturday. Raluca Mita continued her winning by defeating James Madison’s Abby Amos 7-5, 6-1 in the Brotherhood flight.

In the UT Prosim flight, Daxhelet secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Penn State’s Katia Blik while Pence defeated VCU’s Yana Morar 2-6, 6-4 (10-4) in the semifinals of the Service flight.

Barton ended day two with a 3-6, 6-3 (14-12) win over Penn State’s Emily Rivers in the Duty Flight Consolation Round.

The Hokies will be back on the court on Sunday for the final rounds. Play begins with one round of doubles at 8 a.m., immediately followed by the final round of singles at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Live updates will be available through Twitter as well as hokiesports.com.
