GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech women’s tennis player Francesca Fusinato has been named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Women’s Tennis Team, as announced today by the ACC office. This is the second consecutive season that Fusinato has earned this honor.
The sophomore from Feltre, Belluno, Italy, finished her second season with a 14-6 dual record. She was 12-5 in doubles matches on the season. She finished the season on a hot streak, going 8-2 in her final 10 matches, while helping lead the Hokies to their first NCAA appearance in 15 years. She competed as an individual in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship in Waco, Texas, as well as competing with her teammates in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships in Los Angeles, where Tech defeated No. 38 Long Beach State, before falling in the second round to top-seed, Southern California in the second round. Fusinato finished the season ranked 63rd in the final ITA rankings and was named second-team All-ACC in 2015.
Miami junior Stephanie Wagner has been named the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year. In all, 30 student-athletes from 14 ACC schools were honored.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
