Sophomore earns second-team honors

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sophomore Francesca Fusinato was named to the 2015 University Division Women’s Tennis Second Team on Monday afternoon, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). This is the second consecutive year Fusinato has received the honor.

Fusinato competed as an individual in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship in Waco, Texas, as well as competing with her teammates in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships in Los Angeles, where Tech defeated No. 38 Long Beach State, before falling in the second round to top-seed, Southern California in the second round. Fusinato finished the season ranked 63rd in the final ITA rankings and was named second-team All-ACC in 2015.

The sophomore from Feltre, Belluno, Italy, finished her second season with a 14-6 dual record, going 13-6 from the No. 2 spot and 1-0 from No. 1 singles. She was 12-5 in doubles matches on the season. She finished the season on a hot streak, going 8-2 in her final 10 matches, while helping lead the Hokies to their first NCAA appearance in 15 years.
