GREENSBORO, N.C.- Two members of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team have been named to the All-ACC Second Team, as voted on by the coaches in the conference. Sophomore Francesca Fusinato and junior Ilinca Stoica earned the honor after several stellar performances throughout the season.
Fusinato earns her first honor since being named ACC Player of the Week after her match-clinching victory over then-No. 6 ranked Stephanie Wagner of Miami earlier this season. She earned Third Team All-ACC honors last season as a freshman as well. Fusinato is the Hokies’ highest-ranked player, coming in at No. 46 in the latest ITA polls. She is also a part of the No. 79-ranked doubles team with teammate Elena Cerezo-Codina.
Stoica picked up her second victory over a top-5 opponent on Sunday with a win over No. 4 Julia Elbaba of Virginia. She also earned a spot on last year’s All-ACC Third Team along with Fusinato as a sophomore. Stoica has worked out of the No. 1 spot for most of the season, often taking on opponents’ top competition for Tech. She enters this week ranked No. 63 in the ITA poll.
Sophomore Jamie Loeb of North Carolina earned ACC Player of the Year, as well as a spot on the All-ACC First Team. Other members of the First Team include Hayley Carter (UNC), Julia Elbaba (UVA), Stephanie Wagner (UM), Romy Koelzer (CU), Danielle Collins (UVA), Joana Eidukonyte (CU), Beatrice Capra (DU), and Caroline Price (UNC).
Joining Fusinato and Stoica on the Second Team are Sinead Lohan (UM), Ester Goldfeld (DU), Quinn Gleason (UND), Paige Hourigan (GT), Stephanie Nauta (UVA), and Johnnise Renaud (GT). For the full release click here.
