No. 38 Tech wraps up regular season with 6-1 win over Louisville
Hokies will play Thursday at ACC Tournament as 9-seed

BLACKSBURG - The No. 38-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team defeated Louisville 6-1 in the last regular season contest of the Spring on Sunday in Blacksburg. The Hokies finish the regular season 15-8 overall and 7-7 in the conference.

Raluca Mita and Ilinca Stoica finished the first match of the afternoon on Sunday, taking down Chloe Willetts and Ariana Rodriguez 8-3 on court 1. Caroline Daxhelet and Kelly Williford took it from there, following with an 8-4 victory over Olivia Boesing and Elle Stokes to clinch the doubles point for Tech. Elena Cerezo-Codina and Francesca Fusinato were ahead 7-4 on court 2 as well before the match was called.

The first point in singles was recorded when Willetts suffered an injury against Katherine Butler on court 6 and was unable to continue. No. 85 Stoica followed up with a swift 6-2, 6-1 take down of Stokes out of the 1 spot. Daxhelet sealed the victory for the Hokies, leaving court 4 with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Boesing to give Tech a 4-0 advantage.

Cerezo-Codina was the next Hokie off the courts as she downed Jessie Lynn Paul in a 6-1, 6-3 decision. No. 50 Fusinato went into a third-set tiebreaker on court 2, ultimately putting Tech up 6-0 with a 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (8) edging of Manuela Velasquez. Sansitha Nandakumar’s match on court 5 came down to the wire before she fell in a third-set tiebreaker, giving the Cardinals their only point.

Next up for the Hokies is the ACC Championship at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina. Tech is the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 Boston College on Thursday at 3 p.m. for the right to take on No. 1 North Carolina in the quarterfinals.
