BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 42 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team swept the weekend as it took down Syracuse 7-0 at the Burrows Burleson Tennis Center Sunday morning.

The Hokies (13-7, 5-6 ACC) claimed the doubles point to begin the day as Elena Cerezo-Codina/ Francesca Fusinato defeated Olivia Messineo/ Komal Safdar, 8-3, but Syracuse (7-11, 2-10 ACC) responded with a win on Court 1 when Rhiann Newborn/ Amanda Rodgers took down Raluca Mita/ Ilinca Stoica, 8-4. Caroline Daxhelet/ Kelly Williford clinched the point when they defeated Breanna Bachini/ Nicole Mitchell, 8-4. On Court 3

No. 46 Fusinato kept things going for Tech as she rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 over Newborn. Sansitha Nandakumar made it a 3-0 lead for the Hokies when she took down Messineo on Court 6, 6-0, 6-2.

After a feisty battle on Court 3, Cerezo-Codina clinched the match for the Hokies with a 6-4, 6-1 win on Court 3 to put Tech up 4-0. Daxhelet got the Hokies one step closer to the sweep when she picked up a 6-3, 7-5 win over Safdar at the No. 4 spot.

Katherine Butler added a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 1-0 (8) win for Tech on Court 5 and Stoica sealed the second straight sweep for the Hokies from the No. 1 spot with a 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (11) win.

Tech will return to action on Friday, April 17 when it travels to Charlottesville to take on Virginia at noon.
