BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 42 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team got the weekend started right with a 7-0 win over NC State at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center Friday afternoon. Tech claimed the doubles points and picked up three quick singles wins to seal the conference victory.

The Hokies (12-7, 4-6 ACC) claimed the doubles point to take an early lead against NC State (10-11, 1-9 ACC). After Caroline Daxhelet/ Kelly Williford fell to NC State’s Elisha Hande/ Nicole Martinez 8-3 on Court 2, Elena Cerezo-Codina/ Francesca Fusinato got Tech back in line for the point with an 8-7(6) win over Liza Fieldsend/ Sophie Nelson on Court 3. Raluca Mita/ Ilinca Stoica clinched the point for Tech when they took down Natalia Janowica/ Joanna Nalborska 8-4 on Court 1.

Sansitha Nandakumar kept things rolling for Tech as she eased to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Nelson on Court 5. In rapid fashion, the Hokies picked up a pair of wins as Katherine Butler knocked off Tayla Stenta 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot and Daxhelet clinched the win for Tech with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hande on Court 4.

Cerezo-Codina battled on Court 3 and earned a 6-4, 7-6(10) win over Fieldsend to add to Tech’s total. Stioca continued the Hokies’ push for the sweep as she battled to a 4-6, 7-6(3), 1-0 win over Nalborska on Court 1, and Fusinato sealed it with a three-set win (6-1, 1-6, 7-5) over Martinez on Court 2.

The Hokies will return to the court on Sunday, April 12 as they host Syracuse for a 10 a.m. match.
