BLACKSBURG – The 42nd-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team returns home this weekend to host a pair of ACC matches in Blacksburg. The Wolfpack of N.C. State will visit the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center for a 3 p.m. match on Friday, followed by Syracuse stopping by for a 10 a.m. meeting on Sunday.
The Hokies (12-7, 4-6 ACC) dropped a pair of matches over the weekend to Georgia Tech and Notre Dame, respectively. Francesca Fusinato, Elena Cerezo-Codina, and Katherine Butler all recorded singles wins on Sunday against the Irish in the 4-3 loss.
Fusinato made a huge jump in the ITA rankings this week, moving up 40 spots from No. 86 to No. 46. Her singles win on Sunday marked her 11th of the season. Ilinca Stoica also climbed the rankings this week, moving from No. 106 to No. 87.
N.C. State (10-11, 1-9 ACC) is coming off its first conference win of the season, a 5-2 win over Pittsburgh on their Senior Day on Saturday. Joanna Nalborska leads the charge for the Wolfpack with 16 wins so far on the season. They will travel to Wake Forest for a Sunday match after they’re done in Blacksburg.
Syracuse (7-9, 2-8 ACC) hasn’t played since March 29th when they dropped a 7-0 decision to Florida State in Tallahassee. The Orange’s two conference wins this season have come against Pittsburgh and Louisville. Syracuse will also visit Wake Forest this weekend on Saturday before coming to Tech.
