GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Sophomore Francesca Fusinato of the Virginia Tech women's tennis team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week after clinching the big upset for the Hokies over the weekend. This is the first of such honors for Fusinato in her career.
Fusinato clinched the Hokies’ conference upset over No. 16 Miami and earned the first win of her career over a top-10 opponent in singles play with her three-set victory over sixth ranked Stephanie Wagner. Virginia Tech trailed 3-1 early in the match against the Hurricanes but came back to clinch the victory with Fusinato’s decision. The sophomore from Feltre, Belluno, Italy, also added a singles and doubles victory in the Hokies 6-1 triumph over VCU.
The No. 34 Hokies return to action this weekend as they travel to Georgia Tech on Friday, April 3, for a 2 p.m. match, before returning home on Sunday to host Notre Dame.
