No. 42 Tech falls to No. 73 Boston College on the road
Stoica, Fusinato pick up singles victories

Chestnut Hills, MA – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team dropped a conference match to Boston College by a score of 5-2 on Friday in Chestnut Hills. Tech falls to 9-5 on the year (2-4 ACC), while Boston College moves to 9-6 (3-2 ACC).

Doubles play began with Francesca Fusinato and Raluca Mita finishing first on court 1, dropping the match to Boston College’s Lexi Borr and Jessica Wacnik, 8-4. Sansitha Nandakumar and Elena Cerezo-Codina had a similar fate on court 3, also falling 8-4 to Asiya Dair and Jennifer Ren. Caroline Daxhelet and Kelly Williford were a point away from a victory on court 2, leading 7-5 before the point was clinched by the Eagles.

Ilinca Stoica put the Hokies on the board, winning a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Jessica Wacnik on court 1 to kickoff singles action. Boston College retook the lead with a couple of victories on courts 3 and 5 to make it 3-1. On court 4, Cerezo-Codina took her opponent into three sets, but ultimately fell, giving the Eagles their fourth and match-clinching point.

No. 86 Fusinato battled her way to a 3-6. 6-3, 6-3 victory on court 5, a match that ended just after the winning point was clinched on court 4. She has now won three singles matches in a row, dating back to March 7th versus Florida State.

Nandakumar’s singles match began late, and was not ultimately finished. She was leading 4-3 in her first set on court 6 when the match was called.

The Hokies will hit the court again on Sunday for a 10 a.m. match at Pittsburgh.
