BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will hit the road to face Boston College and Pittsburgh this weekend. First up is Boston College in Chestnut Hills, MA on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by Pittsburgh on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Tech (9-4, 2-3 ACC) is coming off a successful weekend in which the Hokies picked up two wins over conference foes Florida State (4-2) and Wake Forest (6-1) at home. Tech comes in at 8th in the ACC rankings this week and has a chance to climb a few spots with another good weekend.
Sophomore Francesca Fusinato has played her way to a No. 86 ranking after a pair of singles wins last time out, including a decisive 6-1, 6-0 win over No. 73 Kerrie Cartwright of Florida State. She returns to the rankings for the first time since coming in at No. 87 in the preseason poll.
Boston College (8-6, 2-2 ACC) is ranked 73rd in the latest ITA rankings. Most recently, they fell to No. 28 Notre Dame 5-2 on Sunday. No. 118 Asiya Dair, who is now 8-2 on the season in singles play, leads the attack for the Eagles.
Pittsburgh (2-9, 0-6 ACC) dropped two matches to Boston College and Wake Forest this past weekend and are still looking for their first conference win. Lolade Ogungbesan was the only Panther to record a singles victory last weekend out of the two spot.
The Hokies will look to take care of business this weekend before preparing to host VCU and Miami next week.
