BLACKSBURG – The 49th-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will host a pair of matches at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center over the weekend, beginning with No. 57 Florida State at 11 a.m. on Saturday followed by No. 50 Wake Forest on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Hokies (7-4, 0-3 ACC) lost a pair of road matches last weekend, falling to then-No. 23 Duke as well as No. 1 North Carolina. Tech is seeking its first ACC win this weekend in Blacksburg. The Hokies dropped eight spots to No. 49 after the losses. Ilinca Stoica and Caroline Daxhelet remain in the ITA rankings at No. 81 and No. 104, respectively.
Florida State (6-3, 1-1 ACC) comes to town fresh off of a 7-0 sweep of Wake Forest at home on Sunday. The Seminoles have two singles players in the ITA top 100; No. 73 Kerrie Cartwright and No. 83 Yukako Noi. They also boast the 53rd-ranked doubles duo in Gabriella Castaneda and Emily Fanning.
Wake Forest (9-5, 0-3 ACC) comes to Blacksburg also seeking their first conference win. As mentioned, they most recently lost to Florida State in Tallahassee on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Demon Deacons moved up a spot from 53rd to 52nd in the latest ITA rankings. They currently have one player in the ITA rankings in No. 100 Kimmy Guerin.
