No. 50 Hokies down No. 73 Marshall, 6-1
Tech claims five of six singles victories

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The No. 50 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team defeated No. 73 Marshall, 6-1, at the Burrows-Burleson Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Tech started the day off with a sweep over Marshall to clinch the doubles point. Francesca Fusinato and Raluca Mita (VT) def Derya Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya (M) on court one 8-2, followed by victories from Elena Cerrezo-Codina/Sansitha Nandakumar and Caroline Daxhelet/Kelly Williford on courts three and two 8-5, 8-5, respectively.

Mita got the Hokies their first singles win of the day as she defeated Bogicevic 6-1, 6-1 on court five. Daxhelet recorded the Hokies second singles win as she defeated Pomyatinskaya 6-2, 6-0 on court three to give the Hokies a 3-0 lead.

On court two, Fusinato defeated Silver 6-3, 6-2 to give the Hokies their fourth point and the victory.

Stoica continued with a win on court one for the Hokies fifth point. Cerrezo-Codina finished the day with a win on court four 4-6, 6-0, 7-5.

The Hokies return to action at Duke on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
