BLACKBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend to participate in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, beginning with a match against Princeton on Saturday, January 24th at 3 p.m. The matches will take place on the campus of the University of Alabama and will include the host Crimson Tide, Princeton, and ACC foe Syracuse.
The Hokies will enter the weekend ranked No. 56 in the country, moving up a spot from last week. Their first opponent, Princeton, will enter the match tied for No. 35, while Syracuse is currently claiming the No. 57 spot in the ITA rankings. Alabama will enter the tournament ranked the highest of the four, coming in at No. 7.
Following the Princeton match, Tech will be back in action on Sunday, with match time and opponent to be determined after Saturday’s matches.
Tech is coming off two victories to start the Spring season, defeating Radford and Davidson in a doubleheader in Blacksburg on Sunday by scores of 7-0 and 6-1, respectively. The matches were highlighted by perfect performances in singles play by the Hokies and a strong debut from newcomer Caroline Daxhelet, who won two singles matches as well as a doubles match on the day.
