BLACKSBURG, Va. – Saturday’s action at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational in Orlando was highlighted by a couple of championship births for the Hokies.

In the singles C draw, Katherine Butler defeated Central Florida’s Monica Matias by a count of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (3) to secure her spot in tomorrow’s finals. She will face the No. 1 seed, Miami’s Silvia Fuentes, who earned her spot with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Eveline Lepinay of Stetson on Saturday.

Elena Cerezo-Codina and Sansitha Nandakumar won their semifinal match in the doubles B draw, eliminating Caroline Eberhart and Kennan Johnson of Central Florida by a score of 7-5, 6-3. Awaiting them in the finals on Sunday will be Clemson’s Joana Eidukonyte and Daniela Ruiz, who took out Youngstown State 6-1, 6-1 in their semifinal on Saturday.

Other Hokies making appearances on Saturday included Francesca Fusinato and Raluca Mita, who narrowly fell to the No. 1 seeded Michala Kucharova and Reka Muller of Auburn in the doubles A draw semifinals (4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (9)).

Kelly Williford dropped her consolation match on Saturday to Clemson’s Vivian Cheng, but fared well on Friday when she won 6-4, 7-6 (0) over Mary Katheryn Lewis of Auburn.

Butler’s match will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow, while Cerezo-Codina/Butler will take the court at 11. Follow us on Twitter and check back here tomorrow for updated results.
