BLACKSBURG, Va. – Six members of the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will join representatives from 15 other schools this Thursday, October 30th through Sunday, November 2nd to compete in the largest clay court event in college tennis. The third annual USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational will get underway on Thursday with one round of singles and a round of doubles, with select matches being broadcast live on ESPN3.
Every Hokie making the trip will be in action in both singles and doubles play on Thursday. For doubles, Francesca Fusinato will team up with Raluca Mita for an early morning match against Youngstown State beginning at 8 a.m. Kelly Williford and Katherine Butler will follow with an 8:45 a.m. tilt against Florida State, while Elena Cerezo-Codina and Sansitha Nandakumar round things out with a 9 a.m. match versus Stetson.
Singles play will follow these matches with two Hokies competing in each of the three draws. The A draw will feature Fusinato against Rima Asatrian of Columbia and Cerezo-Codina versus Melissa Kopinski of Illinois. The B draw includes Nandakumar against Columbia’s Alexandra Solovyev and Mita against Carla Tur Mari of Oklahoma State. Lastly, Williford will take on Stetson’s Eveline Lepinay and Butler will face Daniela Schippers of Florida State in draw C. Times for these matches will likely be dependent on how quickly the preceding doubles matches are completed.
