2014 Hokie Fall Invitational Results
BLACKSBURG, Va. –Sansitha Nandakumar and Raluca Mita’s first place finishes in singles play highlighted a successful third and final day for Tech players in the 2014 Hokie Fall Invitational.
Nandakumar defeated Liberty’s Mariely Hassey 7-6, 6-2, 8-6 to earn the top spot in Flight B, while Mita took down Hokie teammate Katherine Butler 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 to secure first place in Flight C on Sunday. Mita also performed well in Flight A of doubles play, earning first place along with teammate Illinca Stoica after an 8-3 victory over Penn State’s Dasha Sapogova and Katia Blik.
Elena Cerezo-Codina was in the midst of a tiebreaker in the first place match for Flight A in singles play before she sustained an ankle injury and had to retire, giving Penn State’s Victoria Kisialeva the victory. Frances Peyton was also among the Hokies with Sunday victories, topping Emily Erickson of Wofford 3-6, 7-5 (9) in the consolation round of Flight E.
The Hokies will return to action on Friday, October 17th when they host the ITA Regionals at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center through October 21st.
