SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team was selected as one of 139 recipients of the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award. Five student-athletes, Francesca Fusinato, Rebecca Harris, Tea Ivanovic, Carol Kahoun and Alexa Rennie, were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

Tech was one of nine teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference on the team list, as well as one of ten teams with players recognize as scholar-athletes.

This marks the third team honor since 2009 for Tech, and the ninth consecutive season a Hokie has earned a spot on the individual list. This is the fourth of such honors for Ivanovic, and the second for Kahoun, who was also named to the All-ACC Academic team this season. Fusinato was also honored by the conference for her work in the classroom, while this is the first accolade for both Harris and Rennie.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA, or CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
