BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 60 Virginia Tech women’s tennis team will open the ACC slate hosting in-state rival, No. 9 Virginia on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Tech (2-0) is coming off a pair of wins in the season opening double-header. The Hokies defeated Elon, 6-1 and followed that with a 7-0 shut-out of East Carolina. Martha Blakely, Isel Martinez-Marcos, Shannon Betts, Courtney Rauscher, Carol Kahoun, Emily Lauten and Katie Blow all picked up singles wins on Saturday.

UVa (2-0) notched a 4-3 win over No. 21 Texas the last time out. The Cavaliers are led by six players in the ITA singles rankings. Emily Fraser leads the way at No. 29 while Lindsey Hardenbergh is No. 30. Erin Vierra and Maria Fuccillo are No. 75 and No. 76, respectively. Hana Tomlijanovic (No. 85) and Caryssa Pertz (No. 89) round out the rankings for UVa.

Last season, the Hokies fell to then-No. 8 ranked UVa, 7-0 in Charlottesville, but former Tech players, Yasmin Hamza and Holly Johnson pulled an 8-6 upset in the No. 1 doubles, defeating then-ranked No. 54 duo of Fraser and Tomlijanovic.

Following Tuesday’s match, the Hokies will remain at home for a pair of weekend matches, facing Winthrop at 10 a.m. on Saturday followed by Appalachian State on Sunday at noon. Both matches will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
