GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Martha Blakely and Yasmin Hamza were named to the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women’s Tennis Team as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford. Blakely was named to the team for the third consecutive year.
Blakely (Jr., Reading, Pa.) received the 2010 Skelton Award, given to the top Virginia Tech female scholar-athlete. Blakely was also named for the second consecutive year to the Capitol One Academic All-America® Women’s At-Large Third Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Hamza (Sr., Cairo, Egypt) posted 21 singles victories this season playing at the No. 1 position earning a No. 89 national singles ranking.
Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia each placed three players on this year’s All-ACC Academic Women’s Tennis Team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
