Three match road swing begins at Wake Forest and Clemson

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team begins a three match road swing on Thursday night, as they travel to No. 15 Wake Forest for a 7 p.m. tilt. Tech follows that with a 1 p.m. match on Sunday at Clemson.

The Hokies, 6-3-3 overall and 0-2-2 in conference play, look to continue its strong play against the Demon Deacons. Tech is 7-6-2 all-time against the Deacs, but have won the last two meetings and have just one loss in the last nine meetings. Wake Forest enters the weekend 9-2-1 overall and 3-1 in ACC action.

Clemson enters the weekend 7-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference action. Tech is 6-3-4 all-time against the Tigers and have suffered just one loss to Clemson in the last 11 encounters, going 6-1-4 in that span.

The Hokies’ goalkeeper, Mandy McGlynn, is this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week. She had a career-high 11 saves in the scoreless draw with Boston College last Friday. She has 112 career saves and is third this season in saves among ACC goalkeepers.

Alani Johnson leads the Hokies in goals, with four. She is fourth in the ACC and 29th nationally with three game-winning goals. Freshman Allyson Brown has added three goals for Tech this season.

Wake Forest, enters the contest coming off a 2-1 win on Friday night at No. 22 Note Dame, is led by Maddie Huster, Bayley Feist and Hannah Betfort, with four goals each. Goalkeeper Lindsay Preston has 37 saves for the Demon Deacons.

Clemson will host Louisville on Thursday night before taking on the Hokies. The Tigers are led by Mariana Speckmaier, with five goals and Jenna Polonsky with four goals. Goalkeeper Sandy MacIver has 26 saves for the Tigers.
