Henderson signs national letter of intent for 2017

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women’s soccer coach Charles “Chugger” Adair announced Friday that Kara Henderson (Norcross, Georgia) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Hokies for the 2017-18 season.

“Kara is solid, steady and reliable,” Adair said. “We have seen her play at both the midfield and center back position, and she is good at marking other players on the field. She’s just a good soccer player, and she makes other players around her a lot better.”

A member of the Tophat ECNL club team, Henderson won three consecutive state titles from 2012-14. She also was a two-time U.S. Youth Soccer Regional Champion and competed at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship in 2013 and 2015. Most recently, her team qualified for the ECNL League Championship for the second straight year.

Of note, Henderson was pulled into the ECNL Player Development Program (PDP) Georgia pool in 2016. She also was among the Olympic Development Program (ODP) player pool from 2012-13.

Additionally, Henderson was a one-year letterwinner for the girls’ soccer team at Norcross High. As a freshman, Henderson helped guide the Blue Devils to their first playoff appearance in over a decade. She also was listed as an honor roll student her junior and senior year and is a current member of the National Honor Society.

“I chose Virginia Tech because it has one of the nation’s top architecture programs,” Henderson said. “I also will be playing soccer in one of the nation’s top conferences – the Atlantic Coast Conference.”

The daughter of Kevin and Yolanda Henderson, she plans to major in architecture.
