No. 9 Virginia Tech opens ACC play on Saturday night, as they host No. 3 North Carolina. Kick-off is 7 p.m. at Thompson Field in the battle of Top 10 teams.

The Hokies closed out the non-conference slate with a big, 2-1 victory at Georgetown on Sunday afternoon ... Laila Gray netted the game-winner in the 88th minute off a pass from Kallie Peurifoy ... Candace Cephers had gotten the Hokies on the board in the first half ... Tech finished the non-conference slate 8-0-1 .

Murielle is the Tops!

Virginia Tech junior forward, Murielle Tiernan, scored Tech’s second goal of the Longwood match and in doing so, recorded her 30th career goal ... She now has 31 career goals ... That puts her alone in first place on the Virginia Tech all-time goals list ... She enters tonight’s match in tied for the lead in career points, at 75, with former teammate Kelly Conheeney.

Ashley’s Not Far Behind

Virginia Tech senior midfielder, Ashley Meier, scored her 28th career goal in Tech’s win over Davidson ... That puts her alone in third place on the Virginia Tech all-time goals list ... She enters tonight’s match in tied with former teammate Shannon Mayrose for fourth place in career points, with 67 ... Meier has 169 career shots, sixth place on Virginia Tech’s all-time list.

The Hokies vs. North Carolina

North Carolina leads the all-time series, 11-2 and has won the last three meetings ... UNC won the last meeting in Blacksburg, 2-1, in 2013 ... Tech is 2-4 in home games in the series and is 1-3 against the Tar Heels under Chugger Adair ... The Hokies are 2-9 in ACC games against UNC ... Tech is 46-77-15 all-time against schools currently in the ACC and 40-59-12 in ACC games.

Virginia Tech head coach, Charles “Chugger” Adair, is now in his fifth season in charge of the Hokies ... He has a 70-25-6 overall record (.723) and a 22-18-3 record in ACC competition (.547).
