Virginia Tech returns to Thompson Field on Thursday night, as they take on the Wildcats of Davidson. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Hokies enter the match 6-0-1 overall ... Davidson is 1-3 on the season ... Tech is ranked 12th in the NCSAA poll and ninth in the TopDrawerSoccer.com poll.

The Hokies recorded their second consecutive shutout with a 3-0 win at VCU on Sunday night ... Alani Johnson scored two goals in the first half and Laila Gray netted her first goal of the season in the second half.

Murielle is the Tops!

Virginia Tech junior forward, Murielle Tiernan, scored Tech’s second goal of the Longwood match and in doing so, recorded her 30th career goal ... That puts her alone in first place on the Virginia Tech all-time goals list ... She enters tonight’s match in second place in career points, with 73, two behind former teammate Kelly Conheeney.

The Hokies vs. Davidson

The all-time series with Davidson is tied, 4-4-1 ... Tech has won the last two meetings, most recently a 4-0, in Davidson last season... Tech is 3-0-1 in home games and 1-0 against the Wildcats under Chugger Adair ... Tech is 33-34-4 all-time against schools currently in the Atlantic 10 Conference, including the win at VCU on Sunday night ... Tech was a member of the A-10 from 1996 through the 199 soccer season, though Davidson was not a member of the league at that point.

An Interesting Week in Goal, Statistically

Anchoring the defense this season is sophomore Kaylyn Smith ... In the Hokies’ three matches last week, Smith started all three and played a total of 225 scoreless minutes ... During those 225 minutes, she did not record a save ... She helped lead the Hokies to their first two shutouts of the season, in the wins over UNCG and VCU.
