Tech travels north for match at Syracuse
Hokies eager for ACC win

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team hits the road on Thursday night to face ACC-foe Syracuse at 7 p.m. looking to halt a recent losing skid.

The Hokies are coming off of two-straight losses to No. 2 Florida State and Wake Forest. Both games were decided by one goal and could have gone either way, but in the end Tech took a loss in each. On Saturday, when the Hokies fell to Wake Forest, they were a foot away from scoring on three different plays but a shot from 30 yards out from Wake’s Kim Marshall lifted the visiting Demon Deacons over Tech, 1-0.

Tech is eager to get a win over the Orange, who enter the game having lost their last three games. On Saturday night, No. 9 Notre Dame travelled to Syracuse and picked up a 2-0 win over the Orange, but Syracuse held the Irish offense at bay for much of the game, keeping the game scoreless until Notre Dame put in a goal in the 69th minute.

Two of the ACC’s top scorers will square off on Thursday night when Syracuse forward Stephanie Skilton and Tech forward Murielle Tiernan compete on opposite sides of the field. The dangerous Syracuse striker has accounted for eight goals this season, her team’s lead and the seventh-best tally in the ACC. The Hokies leading attacker, Tiernan, has nine goals and sits in the fourth spot in that category among ACC players.

Lately, the Hokies have faired well against the Orange. Tech is 2-2 all-time against Syracuse, but last year was the first time the Hokies played them since 2003. In last year’s game, Tech won convincingly, 3-0, at home off of goals from Jazmine Reeves and Kelsey Loupee.

Game time is slated for 7 p.m. and live stats will be available online here.
