DURHAM, N.C. -- The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will look to finish unbeaten in its longest road trip since 2001 on Sunday afternoon, as it faces off against Duke in a 2 p.m. matchup.

Virginia Tech set a new record for consecutive road wins this past Thursday evening, as the Hokies battled for a 4-1 victory at NC State. Four different players collected a goal for Tech on the evening, as sophomore Ashley Meier and junior Katie Yensen scored in the first half, while seniors Taylor Antolino and Katie DeTuro each scored in the closing period.

The Hokies have now won six straight road matches, dating back to a 3-0 victory at Clemson last season. Tech has won its first four contests on the road in 2013.

Ten players have found the back of the net for the Hokies this year, led by senior Jazmine Reeves with seven. Just behind her is a pair of underclassmen, as sophomore Ashley Meier has six goals, while freshman Murielle Tiernan has recorded five. Reeves and Tiernan each have four assists on the year, tied for most on the team.

The Hokies are now 9-1-1 on the season, after going undefeated in non-conference play for the second consecutive season. Tech is also yet to give up more than two goals in any match this season, en route to a 4-1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference record.

The Hokies’ efforts have propelled them into national rankings, as Tech sits at No. 16 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll and No. 19 in Top Drawer Soccer’s national poll. In 2013’s first RPI rankings, released this week, the Hokies checked in at No. 10 nationally.

Duke comes into Sunday’s match sporting a 4-5-2 record, including a 1-3-1 record in ACC play. After winning their ACC opener, the Blue Devils have gotten just a single point from their last three matches, a 2-2 draw at Syracuse. On Thursday evening, Duke dropped a tough 3-2 decision to No. 1 Virginia that saw the Cavaliers score three unanswered goals after Duke took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In its 11 matches, Duke has faced six nationally-ranked opponents. Kim DeCesare and Kaitlyn Kerr have each scored three goals this season to pace the Blue Devils, while Ali Kershner has played goalkeeper in 10 matches, accumulating 36 saves and a 0.74 goals-against-average.

Tech has won just one match against Duke, though the programs have met 10 times. In last year’s contest, goals from then-freshman Ashley Meier and then-sophomore Kelsey Loupee weren’t quite enough, as the Blue Devils escaped Blacksburg with a 3-2 win in overtime.

Sunday’s contest represents the final date in the Hokies’ four-match road trip, Tech’s longest stint away from Thompson Field since a five-match road swing during the 2001 season.
