RALEIGH, N.C. -- Four goals from four different players carried the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team to victory on Thursday evening, as the Hokies earned their fourth straight win by way of a 4-1 victory at NC State.

Entering the match, Tech had won three consecutive matches. The Hokies also had not allowed a goal in those three matches, quite a feat in the highly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference.

“I feel like we could have had a little bit better rhythm tonight,” Head Coach Chugger Adair said. “Part of that was NC State; they did a great job of working hard and making it difficult for us to play through.”

Sophomore Ashley Meier started the scoring early, creating a goal seemingly out of nothing in just the sixth minute. The sophomore won possession from a Wolfpack defender near the left edge of the box and fired a very tightly-angled shot from eight yards that beat NC State goalkeeper Mackenzie Stelljes and put the Hokies up 1-0.

The score was Meier’s sixth of the 2013 season and the 16th of her career.

The Hokies doubled their advantage in just the 18th minute, by way of their second penalty kick in as many matches. Senior Jazmine Reeves, who caused problems for the Wolfpack throughout, earned the spot kick, getting dragged down in the box after beating a pair of defenders. Junior Katie Yensen buried the PK to Stellies’ right to put Tech up 2-0.

At the break, the Hokies led NC State in shots by a 7-3 margin and had taken the only corner kick of the match.

The Wolfpack struck first after the break, as Jackie Stengal pulled a goal back in the 60th minute. Meagan Proper played in a perfect cross from 35 yards out, allowing Stengal to sneak between a pair of Hokie defenders and nod the chance home to cut the defecit to 2-1.

Following the goal, NC State sought to capitalize on the momentum, but Hokie defender Taylor Antolino calmed the storm in the 75th minute. Following a Tech corner kick, the ball trickled out to the senior, who took a touch and ripped a shot from 30 yards that buried itself just inside the right post to put the Hokies up 3-1.

The goal was the first of Antolino’s career and occurred on the senior’s fifth career shot.

Katie DeTuro put the match truly out of reach just three minutes later when she carved out some space in the box. Sophomore Morgan Conklin broke free down the right side and launched a cross into the area where DeTuro waited with no defender within three yards. The senior calmly headed home the chance to put Tech up 4-1 on her second goal of the year.

With neither team mounting a significant threat over the final 10 minutes, Tech was able to earn its fourth consecutive victory.

“I was happy with the four goals we scored tonight,” Adair said. “We could have been a lot cleaner for the whole 90 minutes, but getting a third road win in a row is big for us, so we’re going to learn and get ready for our next match.”

Colpitts made a pair of saves on the evening to earn her 36th career victory. Stelljes recorded six for NC State in the loss.

With the win, the Hokies are now 9-1-1 on the season, including a 4-1-0 mark in ACC play. NC State is now 6-5-0 and 1-4-0 in the conference.

The Hokies will be back in action in Durham, N.C. on Sunday afternoon, when they wrap up their four-match road trip with a 2 p.m. bout against Duke.
