BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Kelsey Mitchell of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team was selected to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s College Team of the Week, as announced by the website Monday morning. This is the second honor this season for the defender as she was named to same team on Aug. 21.
Mitchell played a huge role in the Hokies’ final regular-season contest against No. 7 Wake Forest. Tech cruised past the Demon Deacons 3-0 to end the season with a 13-5-1 overall record. The senior defender assisted the second goal of the game and played all 90 minutes to hold Wake Forest to just eight shots and two on goal for Tech’s 12th shutout of the season that sets a new single-season school record.
The TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s College Team of the Week is chosen after reviewing every match report for Division I soccer. Joining Mitchell with this honor is ACC opponent Dagny Brynjarsdottir from Florida State, along with Emily Oliver (Standford), Delaney Zalud (Washington State), Claire Magliola (Georgetown), Cloee Colohan (BYU), Grace Radler (Winthrop), Lauren Lazo (Princeton), Vanessa DiBernardo (Illinois), Tiffany Cameron (Ohio State) and Diana Potterveld (South Dakota State).
Tech’s 4-5-1 ACC record was not enough to advance to the conference tournament this past weekend, but the Hokies are in a great spot for an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament that starts the second weekend in November. The NCAA Selection Show will be streamed liver on NCAA.com on Monday, Nov. 5 at 4:30 p.m.
