BLACKSBURG, Va. – Five members of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team were named to the VaSID All-State team Friday by the Virginia Sports Information Directors. First-year head coach Chugger Adair was named Co-Coach of the Year, Kelly Conheeney was placed on the first team and Jazmine Reeves, Shannon Mayrose and Brittany Michels all earned second team honors.

“It is a nice honor to be considered and awarded for the postseason awards,” commented Adair. “It is a testament to these players, the team and staff as a whole for all of the work the team has put in. Conheeney, Reeves, Michels and Mayrose are all very deserving. They were a huge part of the teams success this past fall. It is especially nice to see Michels honored as she is in her senior year and also for Mayrose, as she has battled so many injuries the past two seasons. She has mentally and physically fought through them to be successful.”

In his first season as head coach, Adair led his squad to its fourth-straight ACC and NCAA Tournament appearances, while matching its best finish in program history in the NCAAs. The Hokies finished the season 14-8-1 and made a run all the way to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009. Tech’s 14 wins is the second highest in program history.

This is the third postseason honor for Conheeney this season, as well as, the third-straight year of earning All-State honors. The past two seasons the junior midfielder has been earned second team accolades.

The Ridgewood, N.J., native started all 23 games for the Hokies this season and was recently named to the NCAA All-Southeast and All-ACC second teams. Conheeney led the team with 12 goals, 30 points and seven game-winning goals, while also becoming Tech’s all-time leader in career points and game-winners this season. Conheeney scored the game-winning goals against West Virginia and Texas A&M to advance the Hokies to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

This is the second postseason honor for Reeves, as she joined Conheeney on the All-ACC second team this season. The Dover, Del., native started all 23 games for the Hokies this season. She finished the year leading the squad in assists with nine and added five goals and one game-winner. She earned a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week on Oct. 17 for her game-winning goal against NC State.

After sitting out the past two seasons due to injury, Mayrose made a strong return as she played in all 23 games for the Hokies this season. The Freehold, N.J., native finished the season second on the squad in points (36), goals (9) and game-winning goals (2). She found the back of the net against then-No. 17 Texas A&M, Clemson and Miami and recorded her first multi-goal game of her career, charting two against Appalachian State.

Michels, who made a huge impact on Tech’s backline this season, started all 23 games for the Hokies. The Virginia Beach, Va., native helped set a new Tech record in single-season shutouts, as the Hokies blanked 11 teams this season. She became Tech’s all-time leader in career games played with 90 and sits tied for fourth in games started with 75. The senior defender finished her career with six goals, two assists, 14 points and one game-winner.
