BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team concluded its regular season slate with a big, 4-0, victory over the NC State Wolfpack at Thompson Field. Tech’s five seniors were honored before the match began and Marika Gray finished her home career on a high note, tallying four points in the match, including a last-second goal.

The Hokies (10-8-1, 4-5-1 ACC) set the tone early, scoring first in the third minute. Junior Katie Cramp put away the first goal of her career after she tapped in a cross, close to the goal line, from Gray.

Allowing the Wolfpack (7-12-0, 1-9-0 ACC) just one shot in the following 16 minutes, the Hokies continued to dominate play and lengthened their lead to 2-0 in the 19^th minute. Freshman Jazmine Reeves received a through ball from sophomore Kelly Conheeney and took the ball straight to the goal from just beyond midfield, knocking it into the bottom right corner when faced with the keeper up close.

Tech took the 11-5 shooting edge into the intermission, along with the comfortable lead.

In the 60^th minute the Hokies struck again. This time Conheeney got a goal of her own on a pass from Gray to give Tech the 3-0 lead.

The play remained mostly on NC State’s end of the field after the third goal and despite numerous attempts, it seemed as though the 3-0 score would be the final as the clock continued to run down.

As both teams began to linger on the field, waiting for the final seconds of regulation to tick away, the ball was served up towards NC State’s keeper and it bounced off of her. Thinking nothing of it, the keeper let the ball go, but with one second left on the clock, Gray received that rebound right in front of the net, and knocked the ball in to tack on a goal of her own, to her already productive day.

The Hokies eventually outshot the Wolfpack 18-8 in the match, and 8-2 on target.

Tech’s keeper Dayle Colpitts made two saves on the day, while senior Rebekah Brook also saw a few minutes of action in net. For the Wolfpack, Kim Kern was the starter and made three saves, also allowing three goals. Abbie Swank relieved her with just under 20 minutes remaining in the match, making one save and allowing one goal.
