Hokies ready for another weekend of action
Two home dual meets highlight slate
BLACKSBURG – With a huge weekend looming on the horizon, the Virginia Tech wrestling team will have one more chance to fine tune things as it will participate in four dual meets this weekend. Tech will travel to Boone, N.C., Friday night to take on Appalachian State and Campbell before returning home Sunday for a pair of matches against VMI and Rutgers.
On Friday, the Hokies will put their perfect 9-0 mark on the line as they open with the Mountaineers at 5 p.m., followed by the Camels right after. ASU features 18th-ranked Austin Trotman at 174 pounds. Appalachian State is 4-9 on the year while Campbell is 1-4.
After a day off, the Hokies will return to Cassell Coliseum for the first time since the season opener on Nov. 9 as they host two squads. VMI and Rutgers will kick things off at 1 p.m., followed by Tech and Rutgers at 3 o’clock and Tech and VMI at 5 p.m. Rutgers has one ranked wrestler, Scott Winston (15th at 157 pounds). VMI is 0-4 after Wednesday night’s loss to UNC Greensboro. Rutgers is 15-4 heading into two matches Saturday at Virginia.
The two matches Sunday can be purchased and on ACC Select, as well as for free on live stats. Admission to Cassell Coliseum is free.
Following this weekend, Tech will head to Michigan for four matches in three days, including bouts against No. 4 Nebraska, No. 6 Central Michigan and No. 17 Michigan.
Below is the probable lineup for the Hokies this weekend. Several wrestlers will also compete at the Kent State Open on Sunday. They are listed below.
