Three more matches on tap this weekend for Hokies
Tech 6-0 on the young season
BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech wrestling team will look to build on its 6-0 start to the season with three more matches this weekend at the Bulldog Duals, hosted by Gardner-Webb University. The Hokies will open Saturday’s festivities against the host Bulldogs at 11:30 a.m., followed by a bout with The Citadel at 1 o’clock and then will finish up with Davidson at 2:30 p.m. All three matches will be wrestled at Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C., on the campus of G-W.
Gardner-Webb is 2-4 on the season while The Citadel is 1-3 and Davidson is 2-5. G-W heavyweight Dustin Porter is ranked 11th in the country by InterMat.
Head coach Kevin Dresser and his staff will give several of the starters in the lower weights the weekend off to rest their bodies heading into the second half of the season. All 10 starters are expected back in the lineup for the rest of the season.
With the season just over halfway through, many of the Hokies have cracked some of the national polls. Freshman Jarrod Garnett is ranked 13th in the InterMat poll and is 23-4 on the year.
