Wresting Locker Room/Practice Facility
The Virginia Tech wrestling team holds its matches at Cassell Coliseum, but the team practices in its new state-of-the-art training room on the third floor of the football locker room facility, which sits adjacent to Cassell Coliseum.
This floor, complete with a nice, detailed graphics package on the walls and multiple windows to create an open feel, is 11,384 square feet, with more than 6,000 of that being devoted to mat space. Next to the mat is a cardiovascular training area, with multiple elliptical machines, treadmills and exercise bikes. This area also includes limited weights for lifting.
Also next to the mat is a sports medicine area for team trainers to treat injured athletes. The sports medicine area also includes a table for taping before practice.
The third floor includes the wrestling team's locker room, a coaches’ locker room, and four coaches’ offices. Both sets of locker rooms include nice wooden lockers and flat-screen televisions, and the players’ locker room features a sauna.
The three-floor facility was opened in November of 2010. The $18 million building is nearly 42,000 square feet, with the first floor serving as the home for the Tech football team's locker room and the second floor being the home to the football team’s lounge.
