Hokies finish 11th at ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech women’s golf team posted a three round total of 899 and finished in 11^th place at the 2018 ACC Women’s Golf Championship. The three-day event was played at the par 72, 6,122-yard East Course at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Hokies, the 11^th seed in the tournament, shot a 300 on Saturday and improved to a 298 on Sunday. Tech shot a 301 in challenging weather conditions on Monday.

Elizabeth Bose led the Hokies. The junior from Norfolk, Virginia, carded a 2-over 218 and tied for 10^th place individually. The 10^th place finish is the best for any Hokie in the ACC Championship. She finished eight strokes behind medalist Leona Maguire of Duke, who defeated teammate Jaravee Boonchant on the third playoff hole for the individual championship.

Amanda Hollandsworth, a redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia, finished tied for 34^th at 227 and Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia and Jessica Spicer, a freshman from Bahama, North Carolina, tied for 40^th at 229. Allison Woodward, a redshirt junior from Unicoi, Tennessee, tied for 49^th place at 233. Hollandsworth shot a final round 1-under 71 to leas the Hokies on Monday

Defending champion Duke won the team title. The Blue Devils finished with a total of 15-under 849, 27 strokes ahead of runner-up Florida State. Clemson was third at 877, Virginia was fourth at 885, Wake Forest was fifth at 890 and Miami was sixth at 893. Louisville was seventh at 894, North Carolina and NC State tied for eighth at 895 and Notre Dame finished 10^th at 898, one stroke ahead of the Hokies. Boston College finished 12^th at 922.

The Hokies will now wait until Wednesday night to find their postseason fate, as the NCAA Women’s Golf Selection Show will be shown on Golf Channel at 5:30 p.m.
