The Virginia Tech women’s golf team travels to Augusta, Georgia to compete in the 13th annual 3M Augusta Invitational. The three-day event, hosted by Augusta University, will be played at the par 72, 6,228-yard Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Friday through Sunday.
The 47th-ranked Hokies are the only ACC team in the 15-team field. Twenty-first-ranked Purdue, the defending champion of the event.
The Hokies will stick with the same starting five from their last outing, a fourth place finish at the Hurricane Invitational. Tech tied for third at the spring opening Moon Golf Invitational in February.
Elizabeth Bose will play in the first position for Tech. The junior from Norfolk, Virginia, is coming off her first collegiate win at the Hurricane Invitational. She leads the team in stroke average this season and, on top of earning the program’s first-ever individual title in Miami, has an additional top five and two additional top 20 finishes for the Hokies.
Amanda Hollandsworth is second for the Hokies. The redshirt junior from Floyd, Virginia tied for 24th individually at the Hurricane Invitational and is third on the team in stroke average. Hollandsworth tied for 13th individually in last season’s 3M Augusta Invitational to lead the Hokies.
Emily Mahar, a freshman from Brisbane, Australia will play in the third spot for the Hokies. Mahar tied for 32nd individually at the Hurricane Invitational and is second in scoring for the Hokies this season.
Jessica Spicer is fourth for the Hokies. The sophomore from Bahama, North Carolina, tied with her twin sister, Sarah, for 36th individually in Miami and has started every event for Tech this season.
Sarah Spicer, a redshirt freshman, will once again play out of the fifth spot in the starting line-up at Augusta, following her solid collegiate debut for the Hokies at Miami.
The event, which begins with a practice round on Thursday, will feature 18 holes of competition on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tee times will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and there will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday morning.
The Hokies will be grouped with host Augusta and defending champion Purdue in the first round. Sarah Spicer will start things off for the Hokies at 10:15 a.m. from the first tee.
