Smith tabbed ACC Freshman of the Week

ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech Volleyball outside hitter Kaity Smith was named ACC Freshman of the Week after her performance at the Pepsi Panther Invitational, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Smith, who was tabbed on PrepVolleyball.com’s Impact Freshmen Watch List this summer, earns the award following her All-Tournament Team showing in Milwaukee.

The Kentucky native tallied 61 kills over the weekend, including 30 in one match, 17 digs and hit a .349 clip against Idaho State, South Dakota State and Milwaukee.

Smith’s 30 kills versus ISU was the second-most by a freshman in school history and tied the seventh-most all-time at Tech. Additionally, the 30-kill feat was the most at Tech in an opener since the NCAA implemented rally scoring in 2001.

The ACC Player of the Week award went to Miami’s Olga Strantzali.

The Hokies will be on the road again this weekend, this time in the state of Arkansas. Tech plays against Arkansas State, Ole Miss and SMU on Sept. 1-2 in Jonesboro.
