SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Hokies fought back from a first set loss to secure wins two set wins but Tech ultimately fell short in five sets at Syracuse on Sunday afternoon. Tech dips to 12-6, 3-3 in ACC play while Syracuse improves to 13-4 overall, 4-2 in conference.

Outside hitter Lindsey Owens led the team with 18 kills and 14 digs to record her ninth double-double of the year. Kennedy Bryan attacked at a team-best .419 rate with 15 kills through five sets. Libero Kenedy McGrath grounded the defense with 18 digs while Amanda McKinzie added 11.

Syracuse's Nicolette Serratore and Monika Salkute steadied the Orange to the victory, registering 16 and 13 kills, respectively. Serratore recorded a double-double with 10 digs as well as three solo blocks.

Tech slipped behind early but shortly evened up the score at 3-3, continuing to lead through the 16th point. However, the Orange evened up the score at 16-all to walk away with the first set win, 20-25.

The Hokies bounced back in set two taking the early lead following a 3-3 tie score. Rhegan Mitchell slugged back-to-back aces to extend the 7-3 margin and force an Orange timeout. Syracuse encroched on Tech's lead late in the frame but Katie Krueger closed out the set with a 25-18 decision.

Virginia Tech maintained a narrow lead through the beginning of the third stanza but then the Hokies took off to an 16-11 lead, forcing Syracuse to call a timeout. Haley Price downed her third ace of the day, upping Tech's lead to 22-16. Despite the Orange's efforts, Owens secured the 25-17 third set win with a solo block for the set point.

The Hokies jumped on the board with a 2-0 lead but the Orange tied it up soon after. The two squads faced 14 tie scores. Tech was unable to regain the lead and Syracuse walked away with the 17-25 win in the fourth set.

Despite the Hokies' efforts in the final set, Syracuse came out victorious with the 15-7 decision.

Tech returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m in Cassell Coliseum to take on Clemson, followed by Georgia Tech Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
