BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech volleyball head coach Chris Riley recorded his 200th win on Saturday afternoon, as the Hokies upended Norfolk State, 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-15) in their second match of the VT Tournament in Cassell Coliseum.

The Hokies (5-0) left no doubt that Riley would earn his 200th career victory on Saturday afternoon, emphatically defeating the Spartans (2-4). Riley owns a 56-43 record since coming to Tech in 2006, and is 200-97 overall as a Division I head coach.

Tech dominated the opening frame of the match, racing out to a 10-4 advantage early, and pushed the lead to 17-6 with a 7-2 run. The Spartans never battled back as the Hokies captured the set, 25-11.

In set two, the Spartans proved resilient, taking the lead for the only times in the match at 4-3 and 15-14. Tech overtook Norfolk State at 16-15, and went on a 9-3 run to close out the set, 25-18.

Several Hokie reserves got the opportunity to play in the final period, and took advantage of the occasion. Two freshmen and three sophomores started the set, and two other freshmen, Jessica Wellman and Liz Trinchere, also saw action. The two squads tussled early, but an 11-2 run extended the Tech margin to 16-6. The Hokies cruised in the set 25-15, and the match, 3-0.

Sophomore Justine Record led the way for the Hokies with 11 kills, on a .409 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kirtsy Blue and freshman Jennifer Wiker added eight and seven kills, respectively. Senior Michelle Lang registered 10 assists and Record also tallied team-highs with six digs and two block assists. Blue also earned two blocks, one of the solo variety, and a team-high .538 hitting percentage. Tech held their fourth consecutive opponent to under a .200 hitting percentage, as the Spartans struck at a -.045 clip to the Hokies’ .400.

The Hokies will match up with Arkansas at 6 p.m., tonight in the match to decide the tournament champion. Arkansas blasted East Carolina, 3-0, earlier in the day. East Carolina will take on the Spartans at 4 p.m. Results will be available on hokiesports.com.
