NEW ORLEANS – With the NCAA East Preliminary on deck for this weekend, the Virginia Tech track and field women’s team remains at No. 17 in Week 8 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 Poll, announced on Monday.
The women moved up four spots two weeks ago in the poll, following Rachel Pocratsky, Eszter Bajnok and Emma Thor all winning gold medals in Coral Gables, Florida, at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
Last Thursday, the NCAA announced which student-athletes made the cut for the NCAA East and West Preliminary Rounds. The top 48 individuals and 24 relays for each region will make the trek to Tampa, Florida (East) and Sacramento, California (West) this week in pursuit of making it to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Road to Eugene begins on Thursday and goes through Saturday. The top 12 in each region’s event will punch their ticket to NCAAs.
Tech will be sending 34 student-athletes to Tampa this week, marking the third consecutive outdoor season it has sent 30-plus to regionals. The distance group is the biggest of Tech’s five disciplines, with 14 student-athletes heading to the Sunshine State.
The complete list of participants is available on the following website.
