NEW ORLEANS – After placing second on both sides at the ACC Indoor Championships, Virginia Tech track and field moved up in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Computer Rankings on Monday afternoon, coming in at No. 9 on the men’s side and No. 11 on the women’s side.

The ranking marks the second time this winter that the men have held the ninth spot, while it is the highest ranking for the women this season and the highest since 2009.

Four ACC men’s teams found themselves ranked in the Top 25, as champion Florida State was No. 7, Tech No. 9, Syracuse No. 12 and Clemson entered the poll for the first time this season at No. 19. The Tech women are the highest ranked team from the conference out of four teams, with the Clemson at No. 19, Florida State at No. 22 and Louisville at No. 25.

The poll for the week marked the first time this season that a combined eight teams from the ACC on both sides entered the poll, following a very competitive championship on Clemson’s campus this past weekend.

Last weekend, the men racked up 107 points, marking their second straight indoor season of reaching the 100-point plateau for the first time in school history while being in the ACC, and the women had their highest finish since 2008.

Both DMRs and six individuals took gold at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex. Eszter Bajnok reset the school record in the triple jump, Vincent Ciattei won back-to-back indoor miles, Neil Gourley reset the facility record in the 800 meters, Lisa Gunnarsson won her first-ever title as a freshman and Deakin Volz earned his first indoor title, both in the pole vault, and Rachel Pocratsky stayed hot and won the 800.

The women own 11 times and marks that rank in the top 50 across the nation, while the men have 15 times and marks.

Next up for Tech will be the NCAA Indoor Championships held on the campus of Texas A&M in College Station on March 9-10.
