Tech women enter USTFCCCA poll

USTFCCCA Men’s Release | USTFCCCA Women’s Release

NEW ORLEANS – Coming off a weekend setting numerous marks and times that sit in the top 10 of the school’s record book, the Virginia Tech women’s track and field team moved up into the United States and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Computer Rankings on Monday afternoon, sitting at No. 22. The men are now ranked No. 24.

Ironically enough, both squads moved 15 spots. The women jumped from No. 37 and the men fell from No. 9. It marks the first time this season that both units are ranked in the Top 25.

On the men’s side, the run of being the top-ranked team in the ACC came to a close after five straight weeks, as Florida State came in at No. 7 and Syracuse moved up to No. 12. On the women’s side, the Hokies are the lone ranked team from the conference, marking Virginia Tech as the only program in the league to have both squads ranked in the Top 25.

Texas Tech men took over the No. 1 spot with Florida dropping to No. 2, while the Arkansas women still sit atop the rankings and USC is behind in second.

For the second straight weekend, Tech split up and went to three meets and did not disappoint. Redshirt sophomore Peter Seufer earned his first event title of the season, claiming the 5,000-meter race at the Music City Challenge on Friday, while on Saturday, redshirt senior Patrick Joseph (800 meters) and junior Rachel Pocratsky (mile) earned event crowns in Nashville as well.

Pocratsky turned in a school-record time in the mile, clocking a time of 4 minutes, 34.01 seconds. The time is one of seven times and marks that rank in the top-50 nationally on the women’s side.

The men currently own nine times and marks that rank in the top 50 nationally in the traditional events, including Vincent Ciattei’s time in the mile being No. 6.

The Hokies will compete one final time in the indoor regular season, heading up on Highway 81 to Roanoke for the Roanoke Tune-Up on Friday.
