Lomnicky Finishes Fifth at the Olympic Games
All-American Marcel Lomnicky represented Slovakia to place fifth overall in Rio
BLACKSBURG - Former Virginia Tech standout Marcel Lomnicky threw a best throw of 75.97 meters (249 feet, 3 inches) to place fifth in the hammer throw finals on Friday evening, while representing Team Slovakia at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Tajikistan’s Dilshod Nazarov earned a Gold medal with a final throw of 78.68 meters, followed by Belarus’ Ivan Tsikhan (77.79 meters) in second and Poland’s Wojciech Nowicki in third (77.73 meters).
Lomnicky was a six-time All-American in the hammer throw event at Tech. He concluded his career in 2012.
