CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Sophomore Marek Barta led the Hokies’ track & field team on day one of the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field on Friday.
Barta surpassed his previously set program record with a 61.38-meter (201-4) discus throw to rank fourth in the country on Friday night.
Pavla Kuklova excelled on the women’s side with a new personal record in the hammer throw to rank fifth in program history. Her 61.25-meter (200-11) distance earned her a fourth place finish overall and third collegian.
Also in the men’s discus, Jordan Roach placed fifth with a 54.53-meter (178-11) mark in the invite while Collin McKenny threw 45.29 meters (148-7).
Mackenzie Muldoon began the day for the Hokies setting a new personal best time of 52.01 in the 400 meters.
The Hokies will resume competition at the Virginia Challenge on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the invite section of the javelin.
Due to poor weather conditions, the men’s pole vault was postponed at the Duke Invite. Now, both the men's and women's pole vault will begin Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.
Tech’s sprinters will begin competition at the War Eagle Invitational at 11:30 a.m.
