BLACKSBURG – This weekend the Hokies track & field team will split to compete at three prominent meets in the country.
Tech’s sprinters in addition to Kacia Vines competing in the long and triple jump travel to Auburn’s War Eagle Invitational this weekend. Vines will jump on Friday and Saturday while the sprinters will only compete on Saturday at the Hutsell-Rosen Track. Mackenzie Muldoon and Emily Miller placed first and second in the multis at their most recent meet at Liberty. The women’s 200-meter dash and men’s 400-meter hurdles highlighted the UNC-Charlotte Invite with six top-five finishes.
The Hokies’ pole vaulters resume competition at the Duke Invitational after a weekend off following the Texas Relays. Torben Laidig highlighted at the Texas Relays, setting a new program record with his 5.60-meter (18-4.5) clearance to place third while resetting Tech’s all-time record from 2006.
Tech’s jumpers and throwers travel to the Virginia Challenge on Friday and Saturday. In her last meet, Irena Sediva led the Hokies at the Florida Relays as the top collegiate finisher in the javelin, marking 57.83 meters (189-9).
The Hokies’ distance group will have the weekend off from competition following the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.
Next weekend, Tech will compete at the Penn Relays, Stanford Invitational, and Radford Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
