BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech track & field team will split and travel to the Bison Outdoor Classic and the Charlotte Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Tech’s distance runners will be race at Bucknell while the sprinters will compete at UNC Charlotte.
The Hokies sprinters begin competition at noon at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center. Darius Watkins highlights the men’s group with his 20.96 200-meter dash set earlier this season to rank sixth in program history. Courtney Blanden leads the women’s team with her 23.97-finish in the 200 meters set last weekend to rank eighth all-time.
Tech’s distance group will begin competition at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. In the their most recent meet, Thomas Curtin and Andrew Gaiser led the men’s team with 1-2 finishes in the 10,000 meters. Julie Wiemerslage and Amanda Swaak posted personal best times in the 5,000 meters while both the men’s and women’s distance medley relays placed first at the Colonial Relays.
Next up for the Hokies, the team will compete at Auburn (sprints), Duke (pole vault), and Virginia (jumpers/throwers) on April 22 and 23.
