GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Pole vaulter Torben Laidig earned his second ACC Field Performer of the Week honors, maintaining his top spot in the nation with an ACC and Virginia Tech track & field program record.
Laidig cleared 5.56 meters (18-2.75) to win the pole vault at the Penn State National Invite. The Schwabish Hall, Germany native surpassed his previous personal and season best while breaking Tech alum Yavgeniy Olhovsky’s record set in 2009.
Laidig was honored with four other student athletes who lead the nation in performances for their respective events.
The Virginia Tech track & field team will be back in action this Thursday through Saturday at Rector Fieldhouse, serving host the Virginia Tech “Doc Hale” Elite Meet.
