Hokies look to make mark at NCAA East Regional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Twenty-five student athletes will be headed to Jacksonville, Florida to battle it out for a chance to compete at the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In order to compete at the NCAA Championship, these athletes will have to perform well at the NCAA East Regional hosted by the University of North Florida.

Of the athletes competing at the meet, Hokie sophomore Irena Sediva comes in with one of the best resumes. Not only does Sediva lead the region by almost 10 feet, but she also leads the nation by a little under three feet. Sediva’s mark of 192’5” (58.66m) is the ninth furthest throw in NCAA history.

Hanna Green goes into the women’s 800-meter race second in the region and fourth in the nation with an impressive time of 2:01.72. The top four competitors in the country in the 800 all have posted times within four-tenths of a second of each other.

Thomas Curtin (5000 Meters), Stuart Robertson (Steeplechase), Chris Uhle (Pole Vault), Marek Barta (Discus), Tomas Kruzliak (Hammer) and Sabine Kopplin (Javelin) all rank in the top 10 in the region in their respective events and are poised to make a run to compete at nationals as well.
