13 Hokies set to compete at NCAA Championships
Competition begins on Wednesday and concludes on Saturday

EUGENE, Ore. - Thirteen Virginia Tech student-athletes are headed to Eugene to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships to begin on Wednesday and conclude on Saturday. The Hokies are sending six distance runners, three throwers, three pole vaulters and one sprinter to compete at the meet.

Leoule Degfae is the most recent addition to the list of Hokie competitors. At the NCAA East Regional, a protest from an opposing team caused Degfae to become disqualified from the NCAA Championships, but the Hokies fought the decision and utimately won. Degfae will now be able to compete in the men's 5000-meter race.

Five other distance runners incuding Hanna Green in the women's 800-meter race, Shannon Morton in the women's 1500-meter race, Sarah Rapp in the women's 10,000-meter race, Grant Pollock in the men's 1500-meter race and Jared Berman in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase will compete in search of an individual national title.

Eva Vivod, Sabine Kopplin and Tomas Kruzliak represent the Tech throwers at the NCAA Championships. Vivod and Kopplin will compete in the women's javelin throw while Kruzliak will look to defend his national title from a year ago in the men's hammer throw.

Martina Schultze, Torben Laidig and Stephan Munz will lookto assert their dominance in the pole vault. Schultze has yet to miss out on All-America honos in the women's pole vault since arriving at Tech. Munz and Laidig posted a one-two finish at the ACC Championships, respectively.

Darrell Wesh is the lone Hokie sprinter competing in the meet. Wesh qualified in the men's 100-meter race by placing in the top 12 at the NCAA East Regional.

Hanna Green, Darrell Wesh, Torben Laidig, Stephan Munz, Eva Vivod and Sabine Kopplin will compete on Wednesday evening.
