Kruzliak earns chance to defend national title
Four other Hokies earn trips to Eugene, Ore. for NCAA Championship

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tomas Kruzliak punched his ticket to the NCAA Championship to defend his national title along with four other Hokies on the second day of the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. on Friday evening.

Tomas Kruzliak is headed to Eugene, Ore. to defend his national title in the men’s hammer throw after placing third in the NCAA East Regional with a mark of 225’7” (68.76m).

Darrell Wesh, the current school record holder in the men’s 100, punched a ticket to the NCAA Championships after finishing in sixth place overall in the men’s 100-meter dash. Wesh posted a time of 10.23 seconds earning a second-place finish in his heat.

Jared Berman, who set the school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase this past season, advanced to the NCAA Championships in that same event after posting a third-place finish in his heat and eighth overall with a time of 8:44.54.

Martina Schultze will also be headed to the NCAA Championships after finishing in a tie for first place in the women’s pole vault. Schultze hit a mark of 13’9.25” (4.20m) to earn the right to compete at the national level. She has yet to miss out on a national championship since arriving at Tech.

Hanna Green earned a bid to nationals in the women’s 800-meter race for the first time in her young career. The freshman ran a time of 2:05.36 to finish in ninth place overall and advance to Eugene.

Several Hokies will continue their bid for a shot for a national title tomorrow afternoon.
