CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Martina Schultze won her fifth-straight ACC Championship in the women’s pole vault on Friday evening to pace the Hokies on a solid second day of competition at the 2014 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

On the women’s side, Schultze hit a mark of 14’4.25” (5.38m) to secure the championship. Schultze has not lost a single ACC pole vault competition since she came in second to former teammate Victoria von Eynatten at the 2012 indoor championships. She earned 10 points for Tech with the win. The junior also became only the second woman in ACC track & field history to win three straight outdoor titles.

Eva Vivod and Sabine Kopplin finished in second and third places, respectively, in the women’s javelin throw. Vivod, who threw a mark of 176’08” (53.58m), was just four inches short of the leader, Wake Forest’s Jessie Merckle. Kopplin earned her third-place finish after a throw of 169’07” (51.70m). The two earned a total of fourteen points for the Hokies.

Nora McKiver qualified for tomorrow’s final in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.93 seconds. Her time puts her in eighth all-time on the Virginia Tech performance list.

Amanda Smith qualified for the finals of the women’s 800-meter race after winning her heat with a time of 2:06.09 seconds.

For the men, Jared Berman finished in third place in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase scoring six points for the Hokies. Berman ran his race in a time of 8:53.85, a personal best. His time currently ranks in the top 15 nationally of collegiate runners in the race. Stuart Robertson finished in eighth place with a time of 9:08.16, earning one point for the Hokies.

Tadashi Pinder qualified for the final of the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.58 seconds. Dante Price also qualified for the final after posting a time of 10.72 seconds.

Patrick Joseph earned a spot in tomorrow's 800-meter final after posting a time of 1:49.78 in the prelims.

After day two, the women's team sits in second place with 37 points while the men's team sits in fifth place with 21 points.

The Hokies will continue tomorrow for the final day of the 2014 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Tomorrow’s events will feature Torben Laidig, Stephan Munz and Chris Uhle in the men’s pole vault as well as all of the finalists from yesterday’s events and today’s events.
